2010 Season - Aten goes distance in win over Wittenberg
Sophomore Erica Aten (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) went the distance as the 10th ranked Augustana Vikings defeated Wittenberg 11-3 early Sunday, March 28. The victory, which came in the third round of the Augustana Invitational at Green Valley Softball Complex in Moline, Illinois, was the fifth in a row for head coach Kris Kistler’s team. The Vikings are now 13-5 overall.
Aten went all five innings in the game, which was shortened by the eight run rule. She had a shutout heading into the bottom of the fifth when the Tigers scored three runs. However, Aten got Katelyn Davis to fly out to right field with the bases loaded in the fifth to end the contest. Aten struck out three and gave up six hits and four walks as she moved her record to 3-0.
Augustana scored a pair of runs in the top of the first when Melissa Nelson (West Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) doubled to right center with Brittany Snoreck (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and Karlee Quaritsch (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) on base.
In the second a single by Chrissy Rosin (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.) brought home Andi Walker (Plainfield South HS, Plainfield, Ill.), who had singled to lead off the inning. That made it 3-0.
The Vikings broke things wide open in the third with seven runs on seven hits and one costly Wittenberg error. A two run single by pinch hitter Ashley Mulligan (Bradley Bourbonnais HS, Bourbonnais, Ill.) was the big blow in the inning.
Augustana smacked 14 hits off a pair of Tiger hurlers with Rosin, Quaritsch, Snoreck, Nelson and Mulligan each collecting two.
