2009-2010 Season - Christensen, Rindone earn CCIW honors

Augustana swept the “Athletes of the Week” awards for men’s track & field in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin following the opening weekend of the 2010 outdoor season. Sophomore Phil Christensen (Kaneland HS, Maple Park, Ill.) won the honor for field events while freshman Alex Rindone (Marmion Academy, Geneva, Ill.) won the track events portion of the award. Both athletes were instrumental in the Vikings winning the Early Spring Opener on Friday, March 19 at Paul V. Olsen Track/Ericson Field.

Christensen won the discus in an NCAA Division III national qualifying toss of 158’ 7” and was second in the shot put with a throw of 46’ 10 ¼”.

Rindone won the 100 in :10.88 and then handled legs on the Vikings’ winning 400 (:42.40) and 1600 (3:25.66) relay teams.

Augustana won the three team event with 381 points.

Christensen, the son of Laurie Christensen of Maple Park, Illinois, is a computer science major while Rindone, the son of Paul and Jill Rindone of Geneva, Illinois, is a business and marketing major.
