2009-10 Season - Kyle Nelson named All-Region
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Augustana junior post player Kyle Nelson (Deerfield HS, Deerfield, Ill.) has been named by D3Hoops.com to its 2009-10 All-Midwest Region team. The 6-9, 222-pound Nelson, who led the Vikings in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (7.7 rpg) and field goal percentage (.602) was a third team selection.
After coming off the bench as a sophomore, Nelson moved into the starting lineup and had a breakout season, earning first team All-CCIW honors for a 16-10 Viking squad. In conference play he finished second in the league in both rebounding (8.2 rpg) and field goal percentage (.655), and was the CCIW’s seventh-leading scorer with an average of 15.6 points per game.
Nelson recorded career highs of 28 points and 16 rebounds in back-to-back games versus Elmhurst and North Park, respectively, this season. In the Elmhurst game, he converted all 12 of his field goal attempts, becoming one of just two CCIW players ever to attempt at least 10 field goals in a league game without a miss. Augustana’s Max Artis was the other, with a perfect 14-for-14 performance against North Park in 1982. Nelson’s .602 field goal percentage this year represents the seventh-best single season mark in Augustana history and he’ll enter his senior season third on the school’s career list at .586.
