I hope that your spring term has gotten off to a good start. The weather actually seems to be cooperating, for a change!
ACTL has two activities planned this week which may interest you.
First, if you are participating in the LSFY program, Meg Gillette will be facilitating a session this afternoon (Monday 15 March, 4:00, Wilson Ctr.) on Plagiarism and related issues. The emphasis will be on ways that faculty can instruct students to help them understand how to properly use others' ideas and avoid issues of plagiarism. We've invited faculty members from the Honor Council and the Reading/Writing Center to talk about how these issues have played out "on the front lines." We'll also take a brief look at Turn-It-In, a software package that will check for potential plagiarism that we have integrated into moodle. Even if you are not teaching LSFY103 this term, but are interested, please join us!
On Wednesday of this week (17 March, St. Patty's Day!, 3:30, Olin 109) Mike Egan will be directing a hands-on session on ePortfolios. Attendees will begin to construct their own ePortfolios, and will leave the session with a "skeleton" of an ePortfolio ready for continued development. We'll present three different approaches to ePortfolio construction: Google sites, Microsoft Publisher, and Mahara. We encourage you to take a look at examples of each:
