2009-2010 Season - Patrick Zeunik to compete in NCAA meet
Junior Patrick Zeunik (Bloomington Central Catholic HS, Bloomington, Ill.) will represent Augustana in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, which will be held at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13.
Zeunik is one of five Augustana track & field athletes who bettered the NCAA Division III qualifying standards during the 2010 indoor season. However, he is the only one of the five who will be competing in the indoor national meet. The other four met the provisional mark in their respective events but were not among the athletes chosen to compete.
Zeunik jumped 47’ 8” in the triple jump in winning the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship on Saturday, February 27 in Naperville, Illinois.
Junior pole vaulter Eric Chalus (Rochelle HS, Rochelle, Ill.) and a trio of athletes who compete in the 35 pound weight throw were the others who met the national qualifying standard throughout the course of the campaign. Senior Darin Decker (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.), sophomore Brian Benning (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) and sophomore Phil Christensen (Kaneland HS, Maple Park, Ill.) are the weight throwers who hit the qualifying mark.
Chalus cleared 15’ 4 ¼” in the pole vault at the Lutheran Triangular in Waverly, Iowa on January 30. Decker won the CCIW title on February 26 with a heave of 58’ 3”. Christensen also met the qualifying standard at the CCIW meet when he uncorked a toss of 56’ 10”. Benning reached the qualifying mark in the first meet of the year when he threw 55’ 6 ¼” at the Sol Butler Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa on January 16.
