2010 Season - Perry shuts down Cedarville on three hits

After giving up seven runs in the final two innings during a 11-9 loss to Capital in the morning, Augustana junior Rachel Perry (Chillicothe IVC, Chillicothe, Ill.) bounced back nicely. She tossed a three hitter at Cedarville in a 9-1 non-conference victory on Wednesday, March 3 in Clermont, Florida. Perry struck out three as she evened her record at 1-1 on the season.

She gave up one run in the top of the first inning before settling down and shutting the door the rest of the way. It didn’t hurt that the Vikings were pounding out 10 hits and coaxing four walks off a pair of Cedarville hurlers.

After trailing 1-0 following the first half inning, Augustana put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first. Senior shortstop Chrissy Rosin (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.) led off with a single to left field and she went to second on a single to center off the bat of sophomore right fielder Christina Trojanowski (Evergreen HS, Evergreen, Ill.). A sacrifice bunt from senior catcher Karlee Quaritsch (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) moved Trojanowski to second and Rosin to third. A ground ball off the bat of senior designated hitter Brittany Snoreck (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) was mishandled and both Rosin and Trojanowski scored to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.

In the second inning the Vikings put three runs on the board. Freshman Jessica Peterson (Marian Catholic HS, Lansing, Ill.) singled to lead off. She stole second. Senior Missy Fobert (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) reached on an error and then Rosin singled to right to bring home Peterson and push Fobert to third. Trojanowski doubled sharply to right to drive in Fobert and Rosin and make it 5-1.

Fobert’s single in the bottom of the third brought home two runs to push the advantage to 7-1. Augustana finished the scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth. Snoreck and Stephanie Sarb (Lisle HS, Lisle, Ill.) worked a double steal with two outs with Snoreck scoring. Sarb tallied the final run of the game when she came in on a single by Peterson.

Peterson had three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run to lead the offense. Rosin and Trojanowski each had two hits.

Augustana is now 5-2 overall.
