2009-2010 Season - Zeunik and Rindone win CCIW Indoor titles
Junior Patrick Zeunik (Bloomington Central Catholic HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and freshman Alex Rindone (Marmion Academy, Geneva, Ill.) both won individual titles to spearhead the Augustana effort at the 2010 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Indoor Track & Field Championship. The meet, which was held in Naperville, Illinois, concluded on Saturday, February 27.
Augustana finished second in the team standings with 151.5 points, behind the winning total of 236.50 posted by North Central. Carthage was close in third with 131.50 points but there was quite a drop off to fourth where Illinois Wesleyan had 52.50 points. Wheaton was fifth with 51 and Millikin took sixth with 25. Elmhurst (10) and North Park (4) rounded out the field.
Zeunik won the triple jump with a leap of 47’ 8”, which not only placed him first but also qualified him for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on March 12-13 in Greencastle, Indiana. Rindone won the 200 in a time of :22.22, which was also a North Central College Fieldhouse record. Earlier in the day Rindone placed third in the 55 with a time of :06.62.
Senior Max Petersen (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) took second in the 55 in :06.56 and fifth in the 200 in :23.00. Sophomore Greg Davis (Carlinville HS, Carlinville, Ill.) placed second in the 55 hurdles with a time of :07.87 and senior Dan Bailey (Deerfield HS, Deerfield, Ill.) was second in the 3000 in 8:32.09.
Sophomore Phil Christensen (Kaneland HS, Maple Park, Ill.) took third in the shot put with a toss of 48’ 11 ½. Junior Tim Whisler (Maine West HS, Des Plaines, Ill.) was fourth with a throw of 48’ 5 ¼” and senior Darin Decker (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) placed sixth at 48’ 3 ½”.
Freshman Greg Patton (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) was fourth in the 400 with a time of :50.00 with senior Nick Borchert (Ankeny HS, Ankeny, Iowa) grabbing sixth and junior Matt Somers (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) placing seventh. Borchert was clocked in :50.86 and Somers ran :50.90.
While Davis was taking second in the 55 hurdles, the Vikings were grabbing three other places in the event. Freshman Patrick Callan (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) was fourth in :08.19 while sophomore Marty King (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) took sixth in :08.24 and junior Brendan Bradley (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) was eighth in :08.30.
Senior Nate Maass (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 42’ 11 ¾” and freshman Chad Collins (Thornridge HS, Dolton, Ill.) took eighth with a mark of 42’ 10 ¼”.
Freshman Jacob O’Rourke (Davenport AssumptionHS, Bettendorf, Iowa) was seventh in the 55 in :06.71. Junior Greg Weigand (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) placed seventh in the 800 in 1:56.66 and junior Brad Keating (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) was eighth in the mile in 4:22.73.
The 1600 relay team of Borchert, Somers, Davis and Patton finished fourth in 3:25.18.
