2009-2010 Season - Men's track & field is in second after first day

The duo of senior Darin Decker (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) and sophomore Phil Christensen (Kaneland HS, Maple Park, Ill.) both eclipsed the NCAA Division III national qualifying mark in the weight throw on the first day of competition at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Indoor Championships. The two day meet, which is held at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, has the host Cardinals in first place with 103 points. Augustana is in second with 47.50 while Carthage is close behind in third with 44. Illinois Wesleyan is fourth (17.50) and Elmhurst and Millikin are tied for fifth with seven apiece. Wheaton (6) and North Park (1) round out the field.

Decker was third in the weight throw with a toss of 58’ 3” while Christensen took sixth with a mark of 56’ 10”.

Junior Alex Stake (Williamsville HS, Sherman, Ill.) had a tremendous afternoon as he took third in the pentathlon with 3,250 points and third in the long jump with a leap of 22’ 3”. Senior Nate Maass (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) finished fourth in the pentathlon with 3,028 points. Freshman Colton Van Kirk (Rochelle HS, Rochelle, Ill.) was sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 14’ 4”. Junior Patrick Zeunik (Bloomington Central Catholic HS, Bloomington, Ill.) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21’ 4 ¾” and freshman Chad Collins (Thornridge HS, Dolton, Ill.) took eighth with a mark of 21’ 4 ¾”.

In the 5,000 junior Matt Bowman (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) was fifth in 15:24.86 while sophomore Billy Wisser (Hersey HS, Mount Prospect, Ill.) took sixth in 15:26.65 and senior Chris Zook (Normal Community HS, Normal, Ill.) was seventh in 15:28.59.

The distance medley relay team of junior Brad Keating (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.), sophomore Marty King (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.), freshman Steve Rogers (Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Bailey finished fourth in 10:15.06.
