Chemical Spills
Safety procedures for a spill are posted where the hazardous chemicals are stored. Building staff are trained to respond. However, if no trained individuals are present, please proceed as follows:
• Do not go near or touch anything that is spilled. Avoid inhaling fumes.
• Turn off heaters and extinguish flames in the area.
• Lock off area if possible by closing doors.
• Notify anyone nearby of the spill and encourage them to evacuate the area.
• Evacuate the area.
• Call Augustana Security at ext. 7711. The caller should be prepared to provide a location and any other information known about the chemicals involved.
• Do not return to the area until Augustana Security declares the area is safe.
Radioactive Materials
If radioactive material is found on campus, please proceed as follows:
• Do not touch the material.
• Lock off area by closing doors.
• Call Augustana Security at x7711. The caller should be prepared to provide a location and any relevant information about the material.
• Notify others in the area to evacuate.
• Evacuate the area.
• Do not return to the area until Augustana Security declares the area is safe.
