2009-2010 Season - Henry leads Vikings at Mary Hardin Baylor Invite
The Augustana Vikings opened the spring portion of the 2009-10 men’s golf season with a fifth place finish in the Mary Hardin Baylor Invitational. The two day event was held on February 22-23 at Wildflower Country Club in Temple, Texas.
Mary Hardin Baylor won the team title with a score of 611 (300-311) over the two day event with Southwestern University taking second at 635 (312-323). LeTourneau placed third with a score of 647 (329-318) and McMurry took fourth at 656 (328-328). Augustana shot 702 in fifth place with identical rounds of 351 and 351. Webster finished sixth at 708 (3551-357) and the Augustana junior varsity team was seventh with a score of 738 (380-358).
Spencer Rothluebber of LeTourneau won the individual title with a score of 147 (76 + 71) on the par 72 course.
The top finisher from Augustana was actually sophomore Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.), who shot a two day score of 170 (86 + 84). Henry, who was playing on the junior varsity team, placed 22nd.
Augustana’s first varsity finisher was junior Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) with a score of 171 with rounds of 85 and 86. Weigand was in 23rd place. Junior Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) tied with Weigand for 23rd with a score of 171 (90 + 81). Junior Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) finished 30th with a score of 181 (90 + 91) and freshman Jonathan Grchan (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) was tied for 36th at 188 (95 + 93).
Helping Henry on the junior varsity team were junior Cole Wells (Tri-Valley HS, Downs, Ill.) with a 185 (95 + 90), sophomore Greg Karesh (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) with a 189 (97 + 92) and sophomore Marko Loncar (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) with a 194 (102 + 92).
