2009-2010 Season - Coverick and Hottle each take third at LaCrosse

Following the week-long extravaganza that is known as finals, the Augustana women’s track & field team took a break from the rigors of academic life and travelled to LaCrosse, Wisconsin for a triangular meet. Veteran head coach Fred Whiteside’s team competed against the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, an NCAA Division III powerhouse, and Winona State, a very strong NCAA Division II program. Wisconsin-LaCrosse won the meet with 70 points while Winona State was second with 67 and Augustana was third with five.

The top individual finishers for the Vikings came from a pair of distance runners. Junior Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) was third in the mile and freshman Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) placed third in the 3000. Hottle ran 5:18.20 to finish behind a pair of UW-LaCrosse runners. Megan Johnson won the event in 5:07.04 while Alison Kolinski took second in 5:12.09. Coverick covered the 3000 meter distance in 10:54.07. Katelynn Williams of UW-LaCrosse was the winner in 10:26.41 with Megan Snyder of Winona State placing second in 10:53.74.

Freshman Sarabeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) was fifth in the 800 in 2:22.57.
The Vikings placed second in the 800 relay in 1:51.38 and third in the 1600 relay in 4:11.55.

Augustana will compete in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship, which will be held on February 26 and 27 in Naperville, Illinois.
