2009-2010 Season - 11 event winners for women at Augie Invite

Led by double winners Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa) and Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.), the Augustana Vikings put on an impressive display at the Augustana Invitational on Saturday, February 13. The meet was held jointly at the Carver PE Center and the PepsiCo Recreation Center and no team scores were kept. The Vikings won a total of 11 events during the afternoon. Of the 11 victories, Augustana won seven individual running events, two field events and two relays.

Fedler won the 55 in :07.56 and the 200 in :27.84 while Bennett took first in the 400 (1:03.41) and the 55 hurdles (:09.50). Junior Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) won the 500 with a time of 1:20.33. Freshman Tara Bistry (Joliet Catholic HS, Shorewood, Ill.) took first in the 1000 with a time of 3:19.71 and junior Brittany Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) won the 2000 in 7:34.41.

Junior Kristin Klouda (West Chicago HS, Winfield, Ill.) cleared 4’ 8 ¼” to win the high jump and lead an Augustana sweep in the event. Junior Megan Lecander (Sherrard HS, Sherrard, Ill.) and junior Megan Garvey (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) were second and third while clearing the same height at Klouda. Junior Ella Mathieson (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.) lead a one-two-three sweep in the long jump with a winning leap of 16’ 5 ½”. Lecander was second with a mark of 14’ 6 ¾” and freshman Jordan Mauerman (Albany HS, Albany, Wis.) took third at 13’ 11 ¼”.

The 1600 relay team of Amy Walsh (Cary Grove HS, Cary, Ill.), Emily Margosian (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.), Bennett and Valerie Bach (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) won with a time of 4:15.82. The 3200 relay of Sarabeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.), Hottle, Samantha Laskowski (Reavis HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Annie Heifner (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.) took first in 10:04.85.

Mathieson took second in the 55 (:07.85) and the triple jump (35’ 0 ½”). Walsh placed second in the 300 (:44.48) and third in the 55 hurdles (:09.58). Jones placed second in the 400 with a time of 1:04.18 and Bach was second in the 200 in :28.23. Margosian placed third in the 200 in :29.12 while Heifner was third in the 500 in 1:25.67. Mauerman added to her third in the long jump with a third in the triple jump with a leap of 28’ 5 ¾”.

Freshman Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) was second in both the 1000 (3:20.32) and the mile (5:37.03). Sophomore Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) placed second in the 3000 with a time of 11:24.89 and senior Samantha Pancamo (Wauconda HS, Wauconda, Ill.) was second in the 2000 in 7:40.50. Senior Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 9’ 8” with senior Libby Geison (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) placed third at 9’ 2 ¼”. Sophomore Amber Gruber (Rolling Meadows HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) recorded a mark of 39’ 11 ½’ to place second in the weight toss.

Sophomore Katie Bedene (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) was third in the 55 in :07.86. Sophomore Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.) placed third in the 300 in :45.73 and sophomore Morgan Gale (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.) was third in the 400 with a clocking of 1:07.87. Freshman Emily Byars (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) finished third in the 2000 in 8:13.02. Sophomore Melanie Battistone (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) took third in the shot with a toss of 32’ 5”.

Augustana will travel to LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Friday, February 19 for a triangular meet with Wisconsin-LaCrosse and Winona State.
