2009-2010 Season - Quinn wins pole vault at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa – Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) captured Augustana’s lone individual win, going 9’ ¼” in the pole vault at this weekend’s Lutheran Triangular at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. The Vikings tallied 91 points, finishing behind Wartburg’s 147 and Grand View’s 108.

Kristin Klouda (West Chicago HS, Winfield, Ill.) took second in the pole vault, also clearing 9’ ¼”, while Megan Lecander (Sherrard HS, Sherrard, Ill.) took fourth with a height of 7’ 6½”.

Augustana’s Ella Mathieson (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.) took second in the triple jump with a leap of 31’ 4 ¾” and third in the long jump at 15’ 8¾”. Lecander went 14’ 5¼” for fourth in the long jump and Jordan Mauerman (Albany HS, Albany, Wis.) was sixth with a leap of 13’ 9”.

A pair of Viking relay teams captured second place finishes as well. The 4x200 unit consisting of Ainsley Fedler (Burlington Hs, Burlington, Iowa), Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.), Amy Walsh (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) finished in a time of 1:50.08 while the distance medley team of Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.), Bennett, Annie Heifner (Oregon HS, Oregon, Wis.) and Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) ran a 13:19.37. Hottle, Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.), Bennett and Walsh took fourth in the 4x400 in a time of 4:10.56.

Hottle took third at 1000 meters with a time of 3:12.05, just ahead of Heifner’s fourth-place 3:17.15. At 800 meters, Jones ran a 2:25.78 to finish third, one spot ahead of teammate Kristillyn Pohlman (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.), who finished in 2:40.59.

The Vikings also got third place finishes from Fedler at 55 meters (:07.67) and Brittany Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) in the mile (5:55.55). Foreman and Katie Bedene (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) were fifth and sixth respectively in the 55 with times of :07.85 and :07.89. Dana Wleklinski (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) and Melissa Lehpamer (Plainfield South, Plainfield, Ill.) finished fifth and sixth in the mile, running 6:15.80 and 6:22.86 respectively.

In the 400 Valerie Bach (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) was fourth in a time of 1:04.42, Emily Margosian (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) was sixth in 1:06.25 and Page Deike (Leroy HS, Leroy, Ill.) took eighth with a 1:08.13.

Klouda cleared 4’ 9 ½” to take fourth in the high jump, one spot ahead of Megan Garvey (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.), who leapt 4’ 7½”.

Bennett’s :09.91 was good for fifth in the 55-meter hurdles and the Vikings took fifth, sixth and seventh in the 3000 with Tara Bistry (Joliet Catholic HS, Shorewood, Ill.), Coverick and Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) running 11:10.26, 11:10.27 and 11:35.54, respectively.

Sammi Laskowski (Reavis HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Jennifer Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) finished sixth and eight in the 600. Laskowski finished in 1:46.58 and Prazak in 1:47.75.

Melanie Battistoni (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) put the shot 29’ 10¾” to finish seventh, one spot ahead of teammate Bethany Siwek (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) who threw 29’ 6½”. Patricia Stoker (Niles West HS, Lincolnwood, Ill.) took eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 33’ 2”.

Next Saturday, February 6, the Vikings will be in Whitewater, Wisconsin to compete at UW-Whitewater’s Warhawk Invitational. That meet is scheduled to start at 12:00 noon.
