2009-2010 Season - Vikings take third at Midwest Invitational
Competing for the third time during this indoor season, Augustana’s women’s track & field team placed third at the Midwest Invitational on Saturday, January 23 in Monmouth, Illinois. The Vikings of veteran head coach Fred Whiteside scored 120 points to finish behind Illinois Wesleyan, the number one ranked team in NCAA Division III, and Monmouth but ahead of Mt. Mercy and Knox.
Augustana did not record a winner in the five team meet but were able to come up with a total of six second place finishes. Freshman Tara Bistry (Joliet Catholic HS, Shorewood, Ill.) finished second in the 5000 with a time of 20:03.3 while junior Brittany Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) was the runner-up in the 3000 in 11:58.90. Junior Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) placed second in the 600 in 1:40.54 and senior Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) took second in the pole vault with a clearance of 9’ 6 ½”.
The distance medley team of freshman Sarabeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.), junior Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.), freshman Kristillyn Pohlman (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) and sophomore Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) finished second in 13:46.91. The 800 meter relay unit of senior Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Ill.), sophomore Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.), sophomore Katie Bedene (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) and freshman Jennifer Garrett (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.) took second in 1:53.90.
Junior Amy Walsh (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) was third in the 300 with a time of :45.02 and junior Kristen Klouda (West Chicago HS, Winfield, Ill.) cleared 8’ 6 ¾” to finish third in the pole vault. Freshman Annie Heifner (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.) took fourth in the mile with a time of 5:36.54 and fifth in the 800 in 2:32.37 and freshman Valerie Bach (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) was fourth in the 400 in 1:05.85. The 1600 relay team of Hottle, Walsh, Jones and Bennett was also fourth in 4:13.05.
Freshman Jennifer Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) finished fifth in the 600 in 1:48.12. Fedler ran :27.67 to take fifth in the 200 while Foreman was right behind her in sixth with a time of :28.17. Fedler was also seventh in the 55 in :07.64. Freshman Taylor Tjardes (Gibson City/Melvin/Sibley HS, Gibson City, Ill.) was fifth in the pole vault after clearing 8’ 6 ¾”. Junior Megan Lecander (Sherrard HS, Sherrard, Ill.) placed sixth in both the high jump (4’ 8 ¼”) and pole vault (7’ 1”). Freshman Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) finished sixth in the 800 (2:32.75) and seventh in the mile (5:39.19).
Senior Paige Deike (Leroy HS, Leroy, Ill.) took seventh in the 600 in 1:51.85. Freshman Nicole Babbini (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) placed seventh in the 3000 in 13:58.51 and senior Megan Timmerman (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) took seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 4’ 8 ¼”. Junior Ella Mathieson (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.) finished seventh in the long jump (15’ 8 ¼”) and eighth in the triple jump (31’ 1 ¾”). Sophomore Amber Gruber (Rolling Meadows HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) was eighth in the weight toss with a heave of 34’ 0” and freshman Emily Margosian (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) was eighth in the 300 in :47.15.
The Vikings will now compete against Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m.
