2009-2010 Season - Women's swim team knocks off Coe

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women’s swim scored a dual meet victory over Coe, outscoring the Kohawks 143-68 on Friday, January 22 in Rock Island, Illinois.  The Vikings won nine total titles, including seven individual races, to earn an easy victory over the visitors from Cedar Rapids.

Junior Emily Cox (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor, Mich.) and senior Ramsey Vens (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) each took home a pair of victories, while senior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and freshmen Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) and Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) tallied individual wins as well.  Cox won the 100 (:58.75) and 200 freestyle (2:06.49) with Vens finishing first in the 50 freestyle (:27.05) and 100 backstroke (1:06.44).  Hlavin was the top finisher in the 200 individual medley (2:24.12), Regnier finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:05.68), and Clennon defeated the competition in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.18).

Vens, Clennon, Regnier, and freshman Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) combined to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:03.43.  Sophomore Alissa Giedd (Freeport HS, Cedarville, Ill.), Cox, Hlavin, and freshman Mary Naughton (Fremont HS, Fremont, Neb.) were victorious in the 200 freestyle relay, hitting the finish with a clocking of 1:49.20.

Freshman Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.) tallied a trio of runner-up finishes, placing second in the 200 individual medley (2:27.39), 500 freestyle (5:50.78), and 100 breaststroke (1:18.96).  Piper took second in the 50 (:27.36) and 100 freestyle (1:00.71) events.  Regnier, Clennon, senior Emma Moran (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa), and Hlavin each added a runner-up showing in the dual meet.  Regnier completed the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:59.89 and Clennon hit the finish in the 200 freestyle with a clocking of 2:10.09.  Moran finished the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.21 and Hlavin swam a time of 1:08.81 in the 100 backstroke.

Sophomore Tanya Walter (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) grabbed third place finishes in the one and three meter diving events.  Giedd took third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:43.48, Moran was third in the 50 freestyle (:31.24), and Naughton placed third in the 500 freestyle (5:56.72).  Freshman Anna Lundine (Willowbrook HS, Villa Park, Ill.) finished with a time of 1:32.08 in the 100 breaststroke to take third in the race.
