2009-2010 Season - Waller helps Vikings defeat Kohawks
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana men’s swimming team won eight individual titles and a relay crown while cruising to a 150-70 dual meet victory over Coe on Friday, January 22 in Rock Island, Illinois. Senior Kyle Waller (DeKalb HS, DeKalb, Ill.) won the 50 (:22.68) and 100 freestyle (:50.70) races and also anchored the winning 200 medley relay team (1:44.27). He was joined by freshmen Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) and Marcus Julian (Lake Park HS, Itasca, Ill.), as well as senior Eric Zike (Ridgeview HS, Colfax, Ill.).
Freshman Eric Pease (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) raced to a victory in the 200 individual medley (2:20.98) and Zike took home the title in the 100 butterfly (:58.12). Greaves was the champion in the 500 freestyle (5:15.15) with Julian hitting the finish with a winning time of 1:03.14 in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Robert Flynn (Bartlett HS, Bartlett, Ill.) tallied first place points in the one meter and three meter diving events.
The Vikings received a pair of second place finishes from senior Will Danay (Muscatine HS, Muscatine, Iowa), who scored in the 100 (:53.33) and 1000 (11:19.84) freestyle events. Julian (200 freestyle – 1:54.44), Zike (100 backstroke – 1:04.89), and Pease (100 breaststroke – 1:10.01) also contributed runner-up finishes for the Blue & Gold. Sophomore Kevin Cialdella (Tinley Park HS, Tinley Park, Ill.) added a second place performance in the 100 butterfly (1:00.37). Danay, Cialdella, Pease, and sophomore Denny Wind (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) placed second in the 200 freestyle relay with a clocking of 1:39.52.
Senior Jake Glimco (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored third place points in the 200 individual medley (2:28.04) and the 100 freestyle (:55.65). Greaves took third in the 200 freestyle (1:55.25), Cialdella placed third in the 50 freestyle (:25.94), and freshman Jon Hill (Hersey HS, Prospect, Ill.) was third in the 500 freestyle (5:50.48).
