After going 15-3 as an independent in its first season of competition, Coach Sara Tisdale's Augustana lacrosse program went a couple steps further in 2013. Moving into the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference, the Vikings won the league title with a perfect 8-0 record and then claimed the MWLC's automatic NCAA Division III playoff berth by winning the conference tournament. Not satisfied with that, Tisdale's squad went on the road and became the first MWLC team ever to win an NCAA tournament game, defeating Redlands.
Top-ranked and defending national champion Trinity ended an outstanding season for Coach Sara Tisdale's Augustana lacrosse team Saturday. The Vikings fell 19-2 to the Bantams in an NCAA tournament Sweet 16 matchup, finishing their second season of intercollegiate play with a 17-4 record. Trinity moves on to the quarterfinals with a 19-0 mark.
Better late than never for the Augustana women's lacrosse team as the Vikings scored four unanswered goals in the final 6:01 to defeat Redlands 11-10 in first round NCAA Division III Tournament action on Thursday, May 8 in Redlands, California. It was freshman Emily Handrahan who hit the back of the net with just :07 showing on the clock for the game winner.
Three members of Augustana's NCAA tournament-bound lacrosse team have been named Great Lakes All-Region by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. Sophomore attacker Christina Letmanski was a first team selection and freshman midfielders Kendall Maduro and Kaylee Nolan were second team picks.
Coach Sara Tisdale's Augustana lacrosse team will not be totally unfamiliar with its opponent in the program's first-ever NCAA tournament game. The NCAA has released the pairings for the 32-team Division III tournament and Tisdale's Vikings will be headed back to Redlands, California for a first-round date with the University of Redlands Bulldogs. That game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8 at 9:00 p.m. CDT.
