This Week's Message

Welcome back, everyone. All of us in Academic Affairs hope that the break was restful for you and yours. 

I was glad to spend a good part of the holiday reading about the Augustana story, since we return to Augustana's sesquicentennial. I hope you have already enjoyed the excellent  resources on our web site related to the 150th:

At next week's convocation, Tom Tredway will talk about his new history of the college, Coming of Age: A History of Augustana College 1935-1975. Dr. Tredway's remarkable new book reminds us of the vocation of our college, a theme we will take up throughout the year to come. 

In addition to Dr. Tredway's book, I was pleased to read Ann Boaden's manuscript on the women of Augustana. Dr. Boaden kindly shared the story you will find in this newsletter, on Augustana's maverick second president, which we thought might be an excellent way to begin the year. 

I hope the year to come will bring us all to reflect on our own Augustana stories and on the work everyone in our community does every day to change lives, as we have for 150 years.
