2009-2010 Season - Greaves earns three titles to lead Vikings
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Freshman Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) earned three individual titles to lead the Augustana men’s swimming team to a third place finish at the nine team Augustana Invitational on December 4-5 at the Carver Center Pool in Rock Island, Illinois. The Vikings scored 476 points, finishing behind Iowa Central Community College (592) and Loras (559). The Blue & Gold finished over 250 points ahead of the other six squads, outdistancing Principia (221), Beloit (137), Coe (83), Hannibal-LaGrange (71), Knox (34), and Illinois College (8).
Greaves notched first place finishes in a pair of freestyle races, finishing atop the leader board in the 200 (1:51.27) and 500 (5:04.30) freestyle events. He also won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.62 and was second in the 1650 freestyle with a clocking of 18:22.10.
Sophomore Robert Flynn (Bartlett HS, Bartlett, Ill.) also won a pair of individual crowns, sweeping the one meter (104.10) and three meter (106.05) diving events. Senior Jacob Glimco (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) was second in both events, scoring 86.55 points in the one meter dive and 81.60 points in the three meter dive.
Freshman Marcus Julian (Lake Park HS, Itasca, Ill.) scored Augustana’s other individual victory, taking home top honors in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:03.14. Julian also added a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke race with a clocking of 2:23.80.
Senior Eric Zike (Ridgeview HS, Colfax, Ill.) turned in a trio of top six finishes over the weekend. He was fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:14.42), and sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:16.56) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.75).
Junior Drew Clinton (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Brookfield, Ill.), senior Kyle Waller (DeKalb HS, DeKalb, Ill.), and freshman Eric Pease (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) also contributed top six finishes for the Vikings. Clinton took fourth in the 50 freestyle (:23.71) with Waller right behind him in fifth (:23.73). Pease grabbed the fifth slot in the 400 individual medley, hitting the finish in 5:03.31.
Augustana topped off the weekend with strong performances in all five relay events. Zike, Julian, Clinton, and Greaves picked up a third place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:43.71). Zike, Julian, and Greaves combined with Will Danay (Muscatine HS, Muscatine, Iowa) to take third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:53.36. Clinton, Julian, Greaves, and Waller placed third in the 200 freestyle relay with a clocking of 1:32.03. Danay, Julian, Clinton, and Graves were third in the 800 freestyle relay (8:07.96) and Clinton, Zike, Waller, and Greaves took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.93).
