2009-2010 Season - Viking women finish 2nd at IWU Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Augustana women’s swimming team finished second at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, November 21 in Bloomington, Illinois.  The Vikings tallied 121 points, finishing behind the Titans, who won the five team event with 175 points.  Robert Morris (77), Millikin (70), and Eureka (8) rounded out the field.

Senior Ramsey Vens (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) tallied the lone victory for the Blue & Gold, taking first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.40.  Vens also led off the second place squad in the 200 medley relay, combining with freshmen Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.), Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.), and Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) for a clocking of 2:00.56.  The senior completed a strong showing at the meet with a third place finish in the 100 freestyle (:58.88).

The Vikings had four other third place finishes on the day, with a pair from sophomore Tonya Walter (Mt. Prospect HS, Prospect, Ill.) and senior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.).  Walter scored 158.15 in the one meter diving event and finished with a total of 148.70 in the three meter diving event.  Hlavin took third in the 200 individual medley with a clocking of 2:25.27.  She was also third in the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:09.11.

Augustana continued to show off its youth, as four freshmen combined for a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay.  Piper, Mary Naughton (Freemont HS, Freemont, Neb.), Timmons, and Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) completed the race in a time of 1:49.17.
