2009-2010 Season - Augustana men win four titles at IWU Invite
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Sophomore Robert Flynn (Bartlett HS, Bartlett, Ill.), freshman Marcus Julian (Lake Park HS, Itasca, Ill.) and seniors Kyle Waller (DeKalb HS, DeKalb, Ill.) and Eric Zike (Ridgeview HS, Colfax, Ill.) each won individual titles for the Augustana men’s swimming team on Saturday, November 21 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Bloomington, Illinois. The Vikings finished with 137 points, finishing in second place just four points behind the Titans. Millikin was third with 87 points and Eureka placed fourth with 20 points.
Flynn began the competition by winning the one meter diving event with a score of 122.70. Julian won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.11. Waller later added a victory in the 50 freestyle, hitting the finish in :23.45. Zike raced past the competition in the 100 butterfly with a clocking of :57.25.
Senior Jacob Glimco (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) followed up Flynn’s showing with a second place finish in the one meter diving event (105.80). Zike also scored a runner-up finish, placing second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.27. Freshman Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.), fresh off winning a pair of events in the Monmouth dual just a day earlier, contributed a second place finish in the 100 freestyle (:50.96).
Zike, Julian, Greaves, and Waller combined for a time of 1:44.88 in the 200 medley relay, finishing second in the event. Waller, junior Drew Clinton (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Brookfield, Ill.), Zike, and Greaves closed out the competition with a second place performance in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.45).
Clinton was third in the 50 freestyle with a time of :24.09. Waller took third in the 100 freestyle, hitting the finish at :52.50.
