2009 Season - Zook places 62nd at NCAA meet
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Augustana senior Chris Zook (Normal Community HS, Normal, Ill.) put the finishing touches on a tremendous collegiate cross country career on Saturday, November 21. Zook placed 62nd at the NCAA Division III national cross country championship in Cleveland, Ohio. The meet was hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College.
Zook covered the 8,000 meter course in a time of 26:29.8. The winning time was 25:09.8 and it was turned in by Ricky Flynn of Lynchburg.
Zook was tremendous all season for the Vikings of veteran head coach Paul Olsen. He qualified for the national meet by taking eighth in the very tough Midwest Regional meet in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 14. In that meet he ran 24:43. He was also 10th in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin on October 31 with a clocking of 27:20.
After starting slowly this season due to an injury suffered during the track & field season, he caught his stride during the middle of the year. He was third at the Dan Huston Invitational on October 10 in Waverly, Iowa and followed that with a fifth place performance at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on October 17.
