2009-2010 Season - Viking women's basketball falls 71-36 at Wash U.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Augustana women’s basketball team opened the 2009-10 campaign with a tough road contest at No. 1 Washington University on Sunday, November 15 in St. Louis, Missouri. The Vikings fell 71-36 and drop to 0-1 on the new season.
Washington U. opened the game with a 13-4 lead before consecutive buckets from senior Kristen Fox and junior Dawn Kernich cut the Bear lead to 13-8 at the 12:05 mark of the first half. The home team quickly responded with a 13-0 run to grab a commanding 26-8 lead and led by double digits the rest of the way. Augustana trailed 39-16 at halftime, but stayed with the top-ranked Bears in the second half, only being outscored 32-20.
Freshman Dori Gills (Holy Family HS, Boulder, Colo.) led the Blue & Gold with 11 points. Sophomore Lani Kasten (Forreston HS, German Valley, Ill.) added seven points and a team high seven rebounds. Fox contributed four steals and sophomore Natalie Runge (St. Dominic HS, O’Fallon, Mo.) finished with six rebounds.
