2009-2010 Season - Women's swim team drops dual vs. Grinnell
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior Ramsey Vens (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) won a pair of events to lead the Augustana women’s swimming team, but it was not enough as Grinnell defeated the Vikings 197-101 on Saturday, November 14 at the Carver Center pool in Rock Island, Illinois. Freshmen Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) and Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) also won races for the Blue & Gold in the dual meet with the Pioneers.
Vens grabbed the title in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.36. She also won the 200 backstroke, racing to victory in 2:19.00. Regnier took first in the 200 butterfly with a clocking of 2:35.56. Alex Piper sprinted to the win in the 50 freestyle, edging out the competition with a time of :27.17.
Senior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) also turned in a strong showing for the Blue & Gold, notching a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke (2:26.62) and in the 400 individual medley (5:01.58). Hlavin also anchored the second place 400 freestyle relay team where she was joined by freshman Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.), junior Emily Cox (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor, Mich.), and sophomore Alissa Giedd (Freeport HS, Cedarville, Ill.). The quartet hit the finish in a time of 3:58.69.
Augustana also earned second place showings from freshman Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.), Clennon, and Regnier. Timmons completed the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:47.14, Clennon finished the 500 freestyle with a clocking of 5:50.64, and Regnier raced to a time of 1:0.24 in the 100 butterfly. Vens, Timmons, Regnier, and Piper comprised the runner-up team in the 400 medley relay (4:22.21).
Timmons added a pair of third place finishes with times of 1:17.81 in the 100 breaststroke and 5:12.87 in the 400 individual medley. Clennon claimed the third slot in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:09.30. Sophomore Colleen Mans (Robbinsdale Cooper HS, New Hope, Minn.) placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.47. Cox took third in the 100 freestyle, hitting the finish line in 1:01.56. Vens, Mans, Regnier, and freshman Mary Naughton (Freemont HS, Freemont, Nebraska) finished third in the 400 freestyle relay (4:03.16).
