2009 Season - Zook advances to nationals

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Senior and co-captain, Chris Zook (Normal Community HS, Normal, Ill.) had an impressive showing at the Midwest Regional on Saturday, November 14 as he led the Vikings and finished eighth overall with a time of 24:43. Zook’s finish secured him a spot at the NCAA Division III National Meet where he will race his final cross country race in blue and gold. As a team, the Vikings finished seventh scoring 175 points. The meet was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and was held in Winneconne, Wisconsin at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.
Zook was trailed by freshman Jonathan Smith (Moline HS, Moline, Ill) who finished 34th overall in 25:18 and was a key component for Augustana in each race this season. Finishing third for Augustana and 37th overall was sophomore Mike Tisza (Hersey HS, Prospect Heights, Ill.) in 25:23. Senior and co-captain, Dan Bailey (Deerfield HS, Deerfield, Ill.) ran his final cross country race finishing fourth for the Vikings and 44th overall in 25:31 and was followed by sophomore Billy TenBusch (Prairie Ridge HS, Cary, Ill.) who was the fifth man and 52nd overall with a time of 25:40. The sixth and seventh finishers for Augustana were sophomore Billy Wisser (Hersey HS, Prospect Heights, Ill.) and senior co-captain Brian Hart (University City HS, St. Louis, Mo.). Wisser was the 64th finisher in 25:59 and Hart concluded his cross country career 79th overall in a time of 26:15.
North Central took first place in the regional with a score of 21 and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse finished second place scoring 105. Washington University finished third (118), University of Wisconsin-Platteville was fourth (124), University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was fifth (169), University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point finished sixth (173) and Augustana finished seventh with a score of 175.
Zook will race on Saturday, November 21 in Beachwood, Ohio at the NCAA Division III National Meet.
