2009 Season - Fifth is highest ranking ever for women's soccer
After winning both the regular season and tournament titles in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, the Augustana women’s soccer team has climbed to its highest national ranking in school history. Veteran head coach Scott Mejia’s team, which set a school record with 18 victories (18-1-1) this year, has moved to fifth in the two NCAA Division III national polls.
The Vikings are fifth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America ranking, moving up one spot from sixth a week ago. They are also fifth in the D3soccer.com poll, moving all the up from eighth last week. The top five teams in both polls are identical with Messiah, Williams, Trinity and Puget Sound occupying the slots ahead of Augustana.
NCAA tournament action will open on Saturday, November 14 at home against Albion at 5:00 p.m. in the first round of the regional. Wisconsin-Stevens Point will take on St. Thomas in the second game of the evening at 7:30 p.m. The winners will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15 for the right to advance to the next round.
