2009 Season - Four Vikings honored by CCIW
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana men’s soccer team had four players selected to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin All-Conference team, it was announced today. Seniors Mike Dolan (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) and Scott Wallner (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) were honored as first team selections while seniors Eric Love (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and John Linden (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) each earned a spot on the second team.
Dolan performed superbly in goal for the Vikings this season, making 89 saves and finishing with a 1.40 goals against average. He started all 19 games and played nearly 1,800 minutes in net while only allowing 28 goals throughout the year. Dolan notched four shutouts, including a 1-0 win over nationally ranked Wheaton in early October.
Wallner earned first team status for the second straight season and finished his final campaign as a Viking with three goals and two assists for a total of eight points. All three goals were game winners for the senior. He started all 17 games he played and led the team with 59 shots on goal. Wallner wraps up his career with 12 goals and seven assists.
Love was Augustana’s top defender, helping limit the opposition to just 28 goals in 17 contests. He played in all 19 games as a starter and recorded one goal during the season while racking up 1,193 minutes of action.
Linden was Augustana’s top goal scorer, connecting on five goals in only 21 shots this year. He also tied for the team lead with three assists and led the Blue & Gold with 13 total points. Linden started all 17 games that he played.
