2009 Season - CCIW honors seven plus Mejia
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women’s team had seven players selected to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin All-Conference team, it was announced today. Five members of the squad garnered first team honors while a pair of players received second team status.
Ninth year head coach Scott Mejia was also named “Coach of the Year” in the CCIW, his third time earning that honor. Mejia notched his first “Coach of the Year” award with the men’s program at Augustana in 2002 and was later selected in 2006 with the Viking women’s program.
Seniors Lauren Polock (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Katie Oakes (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.), along with sophomores Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.), Megan Mummert (Crawfordsville HS, Crawfordsville, Ind.), and Caitlin Winkelman (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) were all named to the first team, helping Augustana lead all schools with five first team selections.
Polock led the Vikings with nine assists this season and is the school record holder with 32 in her career. She also tallied three goals and was one of three players to start all 20 games this year. A four year CCIW All-Conference selection, Polock has been a first team honoree in 2007 and 2009. She was a second team selection in 2006 and 2008.
Oakes has also been a four year CCIW All-Conference selection earning first team honors in 2008 and 2009 while being named to the second team in 2006 and 2007. She scored eight goals this season and is fifth on the all-time list with 27 in her career. Oakes battled through some injuries early in the year, but came on to play in 15 games, including 13 as a starter.
Radloff earned first team status after only allowing nine goals in almost 1,700 minutes of action. She finished the year with a 0.48 goals against average and made 46 saves. Radloff was 17-1-1 as a starter and earned 10 shutouts, including two during the CCIW tournament in wins over Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan.
Mummert also started all 20 games this season as a defender for the Vikings. She played a key role in the team’s success and led the squad with 1,378 minutes of action.
Winkelman was the third Viking to start all 20 games and finished second on the team with 1,365 minutes played. She finished the season with eight goals, including three game winners, and also added three assists for a total of 19 points.
Senior Anna Carey (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Warrenville, Ill.) and sophomore Erin Coulson (Naperville Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) represented Augustana on the second team. Carey is a three year honoree, grabbing first team honors in 2006 and 2008 while missing the 2007 season due to injury. She has been a key part of a stout Viking defense over the last few years and helped hold opponents to just nine goals this season.
Coulson led the Blue & Gold with 11 goals, including a remarkable seven game winners, and also picked up one assist. She tallied a team high 23 points and is ninth on the all-time list with 11 goals in a single season.
