2009 Season - Vikings 11th in latest NCAA Poll
After a second place finish at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet on Saturday, October 31 in Elmhurst, Illinois the Vikings lost only to top ranked North Central College. The Vikings of veteran head coach Paul Olsen went from 10 th to 11 th in the weekly rankings, which were released today by the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
Augustana was led by senior captain Chris Zook (Normal Community HS, Normal, Ill.) who finished 10 th and was the first non-North Central runner to cross the finish line. The Vikings scored 54 points and freshman Jonathan Smith (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) was named CCIW “Freshman of the Year”.
The Vikings prepare to race in the Midwest Regional on Saturday, November 14 which will be held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Midwest Regional will feature four top ten ranked teams, North Central (first), Wisconsin-LaCrosse (second), UW-Stevens Point (fifth), and UW-Platteville (ninth).
