2009 Season - Top 10 in two polls heading into CCIW title match
Augustana will head into the championship match of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin on Saturday night against Illinois Wesleyan ranked in the top 10 in the nation in two separate polls. The Vikings of head coach Scott Mejia, currently 17-1-1 overall, are ranked sixth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and eighth n the D3soccer.com list. Last week Augustana was sixth in the NSCAA and 10 th in the D3soccer.com poll.
The Vikings defeated Millikin 5-0 last night in the semi-final round of the CCIW tournament will now play Illinois Wesleyan (15-2-3) in the championship match on Saturday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Ericson Field. The Titans are currently ranked 20 th by the NSCAA and 14 th by D3soccer.com. Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton played to a 1-1 tie in the other semi-final on Wednesday night but the Titans advanced on penalty kick.
Augustana won its first ever CCIW championship with a 4-1 home field victory over Elmhurst on Saturday, October 31. The winner of the championship match will get the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. The Vikings have set a new school record for victories in a single season with the 17 wins so far this year.
