2009 Season - Oakes named "Player of the Week" in the CCIW
Senior forward Katie Oakes (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) has been selected as the “Player of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the week ending November 1. Oakes was instrumental in a pair of Augustana victories last week as the Vikings clinched their first ever CCIW title in women’s soccer.
Oakes scored three goals last week as Augustana moved its record to 16-1-1 overall and 7-0-0 in the CCIW. The Vikings beat North Central 1-0 on Wednesday, October 28 with Oakes tallying the lone goal. She scored two more goals in a 4-1 win over Elmhurst on October 31 that wrapped up the outright title. With her three goals last week, Oakes has now moved her season total to seven goals and two assists.
A speech communications major, Oakes is the daughter of Mike Oakes of Carol Stream, Illinois and Catherine Oakes of Wheaton, Illinois. This is the seventh time this season that Augustana has had a “Player of the Week” in the CCIW. Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) was named the “Defensive Player of the Week” on October 27. Caitlin Winkelman (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) was named the “Offensive Player of the Week” on October 20. Erin Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) won it on October 6 and September 29 and Taylor Moesle (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) took home the award on September 15.
