2009 Season - Season ends in loss at North Central

A 3-1 loss to second seeded North Central ended the 2009 volleyball season for Augustana on Tuesday, November 3 in Naperville, Illinois in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin tournament. The Cardinals won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-16 before the Vikings rallied and took the third set 25-21. In game four, however, North Central won by a margin of 25-20. North Central will now move to the semi-final round of the CCIW tournament with a 33-3 record while Augustana’s season ends at 11-21.

Junior Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) led the Augustana attack with 15 kills and she also picked up 15 digs and a service ace. Sophomore Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) had eight kills, one assisted block and one dig. Freshman Casey Komel (Kaneland HS, Elburn, Ill.) pitched in with six kills and three service aces. Senior Mallory Thelander (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) had five kills, three digs and an assisted block.

Junior Allison Bailey (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) had 36 assists with 10 digs. Senior Rachel Uhrig (Wheaton North HS, Winfield, Ill.) closed out her career with a team leading 18 digs. Senior Bridget Reich (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) had three kills, three service aces, four digs and three total blocks (one solo and two assists) in her final match in a Viking uniform.
