2009-2010 Season - Vikings beat Millikin in men's swimming

Showing a combination of talent and depth, the Augustana Vikings defeated Millikin by a score of 124-78 in men’s swimming action on Saturday, October 31 in the Carver Center Pool. Just one week earlier second year head coach Scott Johannes’ team opened the competitive portion of the 2009 schedule by finishing second at the Illinois Wesleyan Halloween Invitational. In the first dual meet of the season, the Vikings won six events (four individual and both relays) en route to the 46 point victory.

The meet began and ended with relay victories for Augustana. The 200 medley relay team of senior Eric Zike (Ridgeview HS, Colfax, Ill.), freshman Eric Pease (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.), junior Joey Waldorf (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and senior Kyle Waller (DeKalb HS, DeKalb, Ill.) got things started with a victory in a time of 2:00.24. The 200 freestyle team of sophomore Denny Wind (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.), sophomore Robert Flynn (Bartlett HS, Bartlett, Ill.), freshman Marcus Julian (Lake Park HS, Itasca, Ill.) and freshman Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) closed the meet with a win in a time of 1:38.24.

Peace won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.69 and took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.49. Zike won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.56 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.71. Greaves claimed victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.68, just moments before anchoring the 200 freestyle relay team to victory. The other individual winner was junior Drew Clinton (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Brookfield, Ill.) with a time of :23.72 in the 50 freestyle. Clinton also snagged second in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.20.

Senior Jacob Glimco (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) took second in both the 1000 (12:05.55) and 500 (5:50.83) freestyle events. Wind was second in both the 200 individual medley (2:26.01) and 100 freestyle (:56.27) with Waller picking up an individual third place in the 200 freestyle in 2:14.59. Flynn was second in the 50 freestyle, stopping the watches at :24.44. Freshman Marcus Julian (Lake Park HS, Itasca, Ill.) placed third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.38 and Waldorf was third in the 50 freestyle in :24.79. Freshman Jonathan Hill (Hersey HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) took third in the 1000 freestyle (12:08.28), 200 individual medley (2:33.36) and 500 freestyle (6:05.40).
