2009-2010 Season - Vikings tabbed for seventh
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The basketball coaches in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin have picked defending league champion Illinois Wesleyan as the favorite to win this year's title. Coach Bobbi Endress' Augustana Vikings were tabbed for seventh.
Augustana finished tied with North Park for seventh place last season at 1-13. The Vikings were 3-22 overall.
Illinois Wesleyan, which finished 30-1 overall and 14-0 in the CCIW in 2008-09, finished first in the poll with 48 total points and six first-place votes. Carthage, which finished third last year, was picked for second this year. The Lady Reds, 18-9 overall and 9-5 in the league a year ago, received the other two first-place votes and ended up with 42 total points.
The rest of the poll consisted of Elmhurst (14-11; 7-7 last year), picked for third with 39 points, Wheaton (16-10; 11-3) fourth with 27 points, Millikin (12-13; 6-8) fifth with 26 points, North Central (12-13; 7-7) sixth with 21 points, Augustana seventh with 13 points and North Park (4-20; 1-13) eighth with eight points.
Augustana opens its season November 15 at top-ranked Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
