2009 Season - Stanley's goal not enough

PELLA, Iowa – With a chance to get to .500 on the season, the Augustana men’s soccer team couldn’t quite get over the hump at Central College Tuesday afternoon. Despite jumping out in front 12:35 into the match, the Vikings fell to the Dutch, 3-1.

Augustana’s Andrew Stanley (Harlem HS, Roscoe, Ill.) got an assist from Sean Fidlow (Carmel Catholic HS, Gurnee, Ill.) to score his fourth goal of the season twelve and a half minutes into the match. The helper from Fidlow was his second of the season.

Central answered with three minutes left in the first half on Jordan Appenzeller’s second goal of the season. Killian Leduke’s first goal of the season at the 60:15 mark proved to be the game winner and the Dutch’s Cody Jandik added some insurance three and a half minutes later with his fifth goal of the year.

The Dutch outshot Augustana, now 6-8-2 on the year, by a 20-12 margin. Viking goalkeeper Mike Dolan (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) recorded three saves, while Quincy Garner and David Ziemann split time in goal for Central. Each was credited with a pair of saves. The Dutch improve to 8-9-0 on the season.

The Vikings return home for a 4:00 p.m. match with Aurora on Thursday, October 29 before closing out the CCIW season versus Millikin in Decatur, Illinois on Sunday November 1 at 1:00 p.m.
