2009 Season - Setchell earns CCIW honor for second time
For the second time this season Augustana senior defensive back Aaron Setchell (Amboy HS, Amboy, Ill.) has been selected as the “Defensive Player of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, it was announced today. Setchell was all over the field in the Vikings’ 42-20 victory over Carthage on Saturday, October 24 at Ericson Field.
Setchell led Augustana in tackles with 19 (eight solo and 11 assists) and he also knocked down three passes. He also recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown with less than a minute to go before halftime to make the score 28-6. Carthage had been averaging 463 yards of total offense and Augustana held the Red Men to 80 yards (382 total offense) under that figure.
For the season leads the Vikings in tackles with 59 (31 solos and 28 assists) with two interceptions, three pass deflections and two fumble recoveries. Augustana, now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the CCIW, is allowing just 13.6 points per game and 89.7 yards of rushing offense per contest.
The son of Craig and Janet Setchell of Amboy, Illinois, Aaron is a business administration, finance and management major. He was also the CCIW “Player of the Week” after Augustana defeated Wisconsin-Platteville 31-12 on September 19.
