2009 Season - Still in top 10 after third at UW-Oshkosh
Despite finishing third in a 35 team field that included six teams ranked in the top 30 in NCAA Division III, Augustana slipped a place in the weekly men’s cross country poll. The Vikings of veteran head coach Paul Olsen went from ninth to 10 th in the weekly rankings, which were released today by the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
Augustana, led by the fifth place finish of senior Chris Zook (Normal Community HS, Normal, Ill.), scored 151 points to take third in the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational. Finishing ahead of the Vikings was number one ranked North Central and number five Wisconsin-Stevens Points. Placing behind Augustana were number 16 Calvin, 15 th ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh and 30 th rated Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Vikings totaled 212 points this week, which is actually five more than last week when they were ninth. The NCAA Division III national poll continues to be dominated by teams in the Midwest Region with four of the top 10 teams representing the region. North Central (first), Wisconsin-LaCrosse (third), Wisconsin-Stevens Point (fifth) and Augustana (10 th) are all in the top 10. In addition, Wisconsin-Platteville (11 th), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (18 th), Wisconsin-Whitewater (25 th) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (30 th) are also in the national rankings.
