2009 Season - Women move to 13-1-1

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Jumping to a 10-0 halftime lead, the Augustana Vikings cruised to an 11-0 non-conference soccer win over Westminster College Sunday evening at Ericson Field. The win moves Augustana to 13-1-1 on the season. A total of eight Vikings found the net in the contest with sophomores Ashley Higuchi (Smoky Hill HS, Aurora, Colo.) and Caitlin Winkelman (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) and freshman Rachel Lenke (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) each scoring twice.

Augustana’s Erin Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) got the Vikings on the board five and a half minutes in with her team-leading 11th goal of the season on an assist from Katie Oakes (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.). Lauren Polock (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) made it 2-0 less than a minute later on an assist from Winkelman. Taylor Moesle’s (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) sixth goal of the season on a feed from Kirsten Boesen (Normal Community West HS, Gibson City, Ill.) made it 3-0 at the 14:17 mark and just over a minute later Winkelman scored her fifth of the year for a 5-0 Viking lead.

The onslaught continued with goals by Oakes (her sixth of the season), Gina Adduci (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.), Higuchi and Lenke. Higuchi closed out the first half scoring with her fifth goal of the season by bending in a beautiful corner kick from the left side. Lenke’s fourth goal of the season early in the second half finished the scoring for the day.

The Blue Jays, from Fulton, Missouri, drop to 3-9 on the season.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday, October 24, when they’ll travel to Bloomington, Illinois for a showdown with Illinois Wesleyan. The Titans are currently 13-0-2 and 3-0 in the CCIW--just a half game behind Augustana in the standings
