2009 Season - "Dig Pink" match goes to Cornell
Playing in the annual “Dig Pink” game to promote cancer awareness, the Vikings fell to Cornell by a 3-1 count. The Rams won the first set 25-16 before the Vikings evened the match with a 25-21 victory in the second set. Cornell won game three 25-19 and took game four by a score of 25-21.
Junior Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) put down 18 kills for the Vikings in a losing cause. She also had 17 digs, one setting assist and one service ace. Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.), Mallory Thelander (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and Bridget Reich (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) all had seven kills for Augustana.
Junior Allison Bailey (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) picked up 37 assists and had 15 digs. Senior Rachel Uhrig (Wheaton North HS, Winfield, Ill.) tied for the team lead in digs with 17 while freshman Shannon Slick (Rockton Hononegah HS, Roscoe, Ill.) had 16 digs and four service aces.
Augustana is now 11-14 overall while Cornell soared to 18-7.
