Augustana sophomore Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) was selected to the all-tournament team at the Mabel Lee Invitational, which was hosted by Coe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. Skeens was instrumental in the Vikings finishing 3-1 in the five team tournament to place second in the team standings. Augustana’s only loss was to Wisconsin-River Falls, which won the event with a perfect 4-0 record.
Skeens played in 16 games in the four matches and she totaled 31 kills with 11 hitting errors in 79 total attempts for a .253 hitting percentage. She also totaled four solo blocks and 11 assisted blocks. She added five digs to her statistical package.
After starting the season with six straight losses and sporting just a 2-11 record at 13 matches, the Vikings have caught fire recently. They have victories in nine of their last 10 matches with the 3-0 loss to Wisconsin-River Falls being the only blemish on their record. Skeens has played in 84 games so far this year and has totaled 146 kills for a 1.74 per game average. She has a .240 hitting percentage (146 kills, 62 errors, 350 total attempts) and she leads the team in total blocks with 64 (24 solo and 40 assists). She also has four service aces and 12 digs.
