2009 Season - Back on winning track in win over North Park

Sophomore Erin Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored an unassisted goal late in the second half to provide all the scoring in Augustana’s 1-0 win over North Park on Saturday, October 10 in Chicago. Coulson scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season at the 34:47 mark of the contest.

It was a much-needed victory for the Vikings of veteran head coach Scott Mejia. Augustana suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday, October 7 with a 2-1 loss against Carroll in Waukesha, Wisconsin. With the win the Vikings are now 11-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin heading into an important home match on Wednesday, October 14 against Wheaton. That game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.

It was the eighth shutout of the season for Augustana, which has given up just six goals all season.  Sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) had one save on the game as the Viking defenders kept the North Park attack at bay. In the match Augustana held a huge 23-4 advantage in shots taken and the dominance was split evenly by half. The Vikings were ahead in shots 13-2 in the first half and 10-2 in the second stanza.

North Park goalkeeper Paige Vrieland was kept busy and she recorded 13 saves in a busy 90 minutes of work.
