2009 Season - Dolan records second straight CCIW shutout

Senior goalkeeper Mike Dolan (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) came up big for the second straight game and Augustana defeated North Park 2-0 on Saturday, October 10 at Ericson Field. Dolan, who notched seven saves in a 1-0 win over 17th ranked Wheaton on Wednesday night, came back with another seven save performance to help his team move to 5-6-0 overall and 3-1 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.

Augustana scored both of its goals early in the contest. The first goal came when senior Scott Wallner (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) put on some dazzling moves, beat two North Park defenders and then launched a rocket past goalkeeper Dan Tuls for his third goal of the season. That was at 16:31 to give Augustana a 1-0 advantage. Less than three minutes later it was senior Alex Rathe (Lake Zurich HS, Deer Park, Ill.) collecting a feed from senior Dave Shrigley (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and popping it into the net to make it 2-0. It was Rathe’s second goal of the year.

The two teams each took 17 shots in the match although North Park, down 2-0 at halftime, held an 11-8 advantage in the second half.

North Park, which was ranked in the top 10 of NCAA Division III earlier in the season, fell to 7-4-1 on the year.  Augustana, which plays at Beloit on Tuesday, October 13 at 4:00 p.m., is currently in second place in the CCIW standings.
