2009 Season - Sixth straight win for volleyball

Double digit kill performances from junior Jenna Loncar (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) helped lead Augustana to a 3-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin victory over North Park on Tuesday, October 6. With the victory, the Vikings have now won six matches in a row and stand at 8-11 on the season and 2-2 in league play.

They won by scores of 25-19; 25-17 and 25-23. Early in the first game Augustana was down 16-12 but a serving run by Casey Komel (Kaneland HS, Elburn, Ill.) sparked a comeback and the Vikings eventually outscored North Park 13-3 down the stretch to claim the set.

Loncar picked up 12 kills with one error in 25 attempts while Skeens had 11 kills in three errors in just 16 attempts. Senior Mallory Thelander (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) added nine kills and a team high 17 digs to the mix. Junior Allison Bailey (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) led the Vikings in assists with 29. Freshman Shannon Slick (Rockton Hononegah HS, Roscoe, Ill.) had 15 digs while Loncar and senior Rachel Uhrig (Wheaton North HS, Winfield, Ill.) each had 10 digs.

North Park fell to 6-12 on the year and 0-4 in the CCIW. Augustana will be in action next on Friday, October 9 at the Coe Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
