2009-2010 Season - Vikings finish seventh at CCIW meet
HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – The Augustana women’s golf team finished seventh at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship meet on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 6 at the Highland Park Country Club in Highland Park, Illinois. The Vikings finished the two day event with a total score of 780 after shooting 395 in the first round and 385 in the second round.
Freshman Morgan Wilkinson (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.) led the squad with a 25th place finish after firing rounds of 96 and 93 to finish at 189 for the tournament. Sophomore Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) came in second for Augustana with a 191, tying for 26th place with scores of 94 and 97. Freshman Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) and junior Jessica Berens (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) each finished in a tie for 34th place with identical scores of 202. Vandersee completed rounds of 102 and 100 while Berens shot 107 and 95.
Seniors Katy Mascheri (Hersey HS, Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Liz Scarlata (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) also competed for the Vikings at the tournament. Mascheri placed 42nd with a total of 213 (103 + 110). Scarlata took 44th with a score of 225 (118 + 107).
Illinois Wesleyan won the team title with a total of 665 (338 + 327), edging out Wheaton (336 + 336 = 772) by seven strokes. Millikin was third at 721 (363 + 358), narrowly defeating North Central (364 + 361 = 725) and Carthage (364 + 363 = 727). Elmhurst finished sixth with a score of 743 (366 + 377), and Augustana finished in front of North Park (DNF).
Illinois Wesleyan’s Lindsey Haines won medalist honors with a two day total of 156. She shot 79 and 77 to finish seven strokes in front of the field.
