2009 Season - Vikings and California Lutheran tie 1-1 in 2 OTs
An early goal scored by Erin Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) failed to hold up as Augustana and California Lutheran played to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Sunday, October 4 in Thousand Oaks, California. It was the first time all season that the Vikings have failed to win. Augustana, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III Central Region and 22nd in the nation, is now 10-0-1 on the season.
Coulson scored her team leading ninth goal of the season with the match less than 11 minutes old (10:48). It came off an assist from Kirsten Boesen (Normal Community West HS, Gibson City, Ill.). It didn’t take long for California Lutheran, now 7-2-1, to retaliate. Aubrie Smith scored at 12:03, just barely over a minute after Coulson’s goal, to tie things at 1-1. Kelsey Sullivan assisted on the goal.
Augustana held a 20-15 advantage in shots for the game, including an 11-4 edge in the second half. Vikings goalkeeper Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) had six saves in the game, including one in the second overtime period.
The match with California Lutheran ended a successful California swing for the Vikings as they defeated Chapman on Friday night in Orange, California by a score of 2-0. Augustana will play at Carroll in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 7.
