2009 Season - Volleyball wins fifth straight match

Riding the 17 kill, 16 dig performance from junior Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.), Augustana picked up its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin volleyball victory on Tuesday, September 29. The Vikings won at Wheaton by a score of 3-1 (25-22; 13-25; 25-23; 25-22). It was the fifth victory in a row for second year head coach Janelle Hester’s team as Augustana is now 7-11 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Jungnickel pounded out 17 kills in 51 attempts with eight hitting errors. In addition to her 16 digs, she had one solo block, two setting assists and one service ace. Senior Mallory Thelander (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) had 10 kills and 18 digs while sophomore Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) added nine kills and a solo block.

Junior Allison Bailey (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) had 43 setting assists, 13 digs and one service ace. Freshman Shannon Slick (Rockton Hononegah HS, Roscoe, Ill.) led the team in digs with 20 while senior Rachel Uhrig (Wheaton North HS, Winfield, Ill.) contributed 15 digs.

Augustana will now have a week off before hosting North Park in a CCIW contest on Tuesday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m.
