2009 Season - Vikings go to 9-0 with a 2-1 win over Coe
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women’s soccer team moved to 9-0 on the year Tuesday with a 2-1 home victory over the Coe Kohawks. The Vikings, ranked 22nd in the nation by D3Soccer.com, controlled play more than the final score would indicate, outshooting Coe 17-7 for the game. The Kohawks fall to 3-7-1 on the year.
A Jessica Dodds (Linn-Mar HS, Marion, Iowa) header off of a corner kick seven minutes in got Augustana on the board first. Dodds’ goal was her second of the season. Despite outshooting Coe 10-2 in the first half, the Vikings were unable to add a score before the break and it remained 1-0 at the half.
Four minutes into the second period however, Erin Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) took a beautiful feed from Jenna Doyle (Regis Jesuit HS, Parker, Colo.) on the right side and buried her team-leading seventh goal of the season to give Augustana a 2-0 advantage. Coe got on the board 76 minutes in when Jenny Snook took advantage of some sloppy ball handling by the Vikings and scored her fifth goal of the season to cut it to 2-1. Augustana was able withstand a late Coe surge, including a 25-yard blast on goal by the Kohawks’ Lindsay Screws which Viking goalkeeper Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) saved as the final gun sounded.
Radloff, who finished with three saves on the night, moved to 9-0 on the year. Augustana will be in action next on October 2 in Orange, California, where they’ll take on Chapman University. Two days later they’ll face Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, California.
