2009 Season - Women's soccer ranked 22nd in nation
The Augustana Vikings, off to an 8-0 start this year, have gotten the attention of the D3soccer.com voters. Coach Scott Mejia’s squad, which has allowed just two goals all season, is ranked 22nd in the website’s latest poll.
While the Viking defense has been outstanding, the offense has been equally productive, averaging 3.25 goals per game. Taylor Moesle (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) leads the team with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Eric Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) leads with six goals and Lauren Polock’s (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) six assists lead the team as well. Goalkeeper Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) is 8-0 with five shutouts and a miniscule 0.27 goals against average.
Five of the Vikings’ eight wins have come on the road. They’ll be in action next on Tuesday, September 29 when they’ll host Coe at 5:00 p.m.
The University of Puget Sound (7-0) is the nation’s top ranked Division III team and received 16 of 25 first place votes. The CCIW’s Wheaton (8-1) and Illinois Wesleyan (8-0-2) hold down spots four and five.
