Joining Barnes on the coaching staff will Don DeWaard (Central of Iowa), Jim Lyall (Adrian), Dean Paul (Ohio Northern), Brad Spencer (North Central), Todd Glaser (Wisconsin-Eau Claire) and Regis Scafe (John Carroll). John Roslien of Central of Iowa will serve as the player personnel director and Patrick Steenberge of Global Football-USA will oversee the operations.
The traveling group of 50 players, eight coaches and support staff, will practice at the Tec Monterrey facility near Mexico City from December 14-18 and will also visit the Aztec Pyramids and the nation’s capital before facing the Mexican All-Stars on December 19.
Barnes, a 1981 Augustana graduate, is in his 10th season as the head coach of his alma mater. He has compiled an overall record of 69-27 during that time frame, including a 2-1 mark heading into this week’s College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opener with Elmhurst on October 3 at Ericson Field. His Augustana teams have been 48-15 in the CCIW and the Vikings have won three conference titles (2001, 2005 & 2006) under his tutelage. His 2001 and 2005 squads participated in the NCAA Division III playoffs, advancing to the second round each time.
He spent five years as the head coach at the College of Wooster from 1995 through 1999 and fashioned a record of 37-13 with the Scots. His overall collegiate coaching record is 106-40 in 15-plus seasons.
No stranger to international travel and competition, Barnes has taken Augustana football teams to play in Finland, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic and Italy.
