2009 Season - Bistry leads women to sixth place finish
Freshman Tara Bistry (Joliet Catholic HS, Shorewood, Ill.) led the way for the Augustana Vikings at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational on Friday, September 25. The 21 team meet was held at Credit Island in Davenport, Iowa and the Vikings of veteran head coach Fred Whiteside placed sixth in the team standings. Bistry was the top individual for Augustana as she placed 23rd with a time of 21:04.8 over the 5,420 meter course.
NCAA Division II school Truman State won the team title with 36 points while Chicago placed second with 105, just ahead of Central of Iowa’s third place total of 110. Olivet Nazarene, an NAIA institution, was fourth with 136 while Wisconsin-Stevens Point took fifth with 182. Augustana scored 208 points in sixth. Rounding out the field were: Iowa Central (229), Carthage (231), Carroll (242), Illinois Central (274), Elmhurst (278), Monmouth (278), Grinnell (299), Mount Mercy (328), Cornell (371), Loras (458), North Iowa (481), Aurora (534), Principia 9535), Carl Sandburg 9645) and Webster (651).
The individual winner was Caedryn Schrunk, running unattached, with a time of 19:14.7 while Megan Ogrday of Carroll was second in 19:22.8.
Behind Bistry, junior Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) placed 36th in 21:30.9 while senior Krystal Damiano (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) took 51st in 21:47. Freshman Annie Heifner (Oregon HS, Oregon, Wis.) was 53rd in 21:50.7 and freshman Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) rounded out the Augustana top five with a time of 21:58.3 in 61st place. Freshman Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) finished 99th in 22:27.2 and sophomore Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) was 102nd in 22:29.7.
